Shoe & Mitten Party
As a “Friend for Good” you can put
shoes on their feet and smiles on
their faces and you can help.
It all began in December of 1943 when Goodwill hosted its first Annual Shoe and Mitten Party. At that time we gave new leather shoes to children. The tradition remains, but our efforts have grown. We now give new shoes, socks, hats, mittens and scarves to children in grades 1st through 5th who are qualified for this opportunity by local school administrators. Last year we served a record 3,350 children. Sioux City and Sioux Falls host sizable parties and our store locations throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota also participate in this memorable and most rewarding Goodwill tradition. It is fun to note that numerous groups, individuals and even prison inmates spend the year knitting hats, mittens and scarves for this occasion. It is a great opportunity to volunteer. Monetary donations are also very much appreciated. We make it easy.
