Aravind is from Southern India, and moved to Rapid City in 1969. During his program, we had some difficulty determining what Aravind was interested in doing, or which career path he was interested in.

Aravind came to us through a Vocational Rehabilitation referral in 2013.

Aravind is from Southern India, and moved to Rapid City in 1969.  During his program, we had some difficulty determining what Aravind was interested in doing, or which career path he was interested in.  One particular day, I gave Aravind a small pile of math worksheets to complete while I wracked my brain to figure out other options for him to try in our program.  Aravind completed (correctly) all of the math worksheets given to him, and he requested more.  This went on until Aravind was completing advanced algebra, calculus and trigonometry worksheets with only a piece of scratch paper to work out the problems.  After struggling with even basic algebra myself for years, Aravind was quickly moving through the worksheets.  In speaking with Aravind’s caseworker, he was also unaware of this talent in Aravind.  Aravind talked during his program about going to college and obtaining both a Social Work and a Law degree.

Avavind is in his third year at Lakota Community College and he stops in to visit after each semester to share his grades with us.  Aravind has been on the Dean’s list every semester since he began attending college.  Aravind’s dream is to practice law in Los Angeles, CA on completion of his degree.  Aravind has 4 years to go in this step in his journey, and our Rapid City team plans on attending his graduation in 2021 and making more noise than anyone else when his name is called and he receives his first degree!
