Building Community

In 2021, Goodwill of the Great Plains began planning to expand the space available for its adult day programs. The current space is small and feels institutional. While the current facility has had several updates to accommodate growing needs over the last 25+ years of the program, we desire to provide an environment that expands our capacity to serve individuals, in a space specifically designed for their needs.

In exploring how to best expand Goodwill services in a mission center, three priorities emerged:

  • Community Integration – Woven into the design is a “main street”, the focal point through the center of the facility. Each space has a unique facade to give the experience of walking through a city main street.
  • Accessibility – Community members of all abilities will be able to engage in activities throughout the facility. Intentional planning gives visitors ease of accessing each unique space.
  • Sustainability – The carefully designed building is the first net-zero facility of its kind in Siouxland. The building will feature solar power and geothermal temperature control with net-zero utility costs. Certification will be sought through the International Living Future Institute.
